What to Expect on a Free NZEL Home Tour
We offer free tours of the NZEL solar farmhouse in Waxhaw, North Carolina — no sales pitch, no pressure, just a real house with real energy data and real answers to your questions. Here's exactly what you'll get when you visit.
Tours typically last 45 to 90 minutes depending on your questions — and people always have questions. We start outside with the roof and panel array, talking through the south-facing orientation, the number of panels, tilt angle, and how production varies by season. We'll pull up the Tesla Powerwall app in real time so you can see exactly what the system is generating and consuming at that moment.
Then we move to the porch — the seven-foot-deep south-facing porch that does passive solar work for the house. We walk through the geometry of why it's that depth, how it blocks summer sun and admits winter sun, and what impact that has on the cooling load. If you visit in winter, you may actually see the sun streaming across the living room floor in real time.
Inside, we walk through the great room design, the all-electric systems, the heat pump, electric water heater, and the wood-burning stove backup. We show the utility statements — twelve consecutive months of them. You can see exactly what we paid or received every month, in black and white. We don't hide the February snowstorm month. We show everything.
We finish with a Q&A that can go as long as you want. What would this cost to build? What's the 2026 development? How do I find a lot that works? We've heard most of the questions and answer them all honestly. Book your free tour at netzeroenergyliving.com/appointments. Slots fill up — especially on weekends.
